Presenting a hands-on, multimedia exhibition about the life of birds, the centre contains a spacious foyer - with a shop, a cafe and display aviaries - that extends out in the form of a timber terrace to Lake Sempach. The institute wanted to sensitize visitors to the natural environment. In the competition, the architects proposed an earth form of construction in combination with larch elements. For the clients, this use of materials - with their haptic qualities and the good indoor climate they promised - was a symbol of sustainability and environmental awareness.
